Bad breath and bleeding gums in cats can be due to simple reasons such as dental tartar and poor eating habbits. Some breeds are more prone to dental calculus. Some cats may have other reasons for developing these symptoms such as feline Aids also known as feline immune deficiecy virus which compromises the immune system of the affected cat. Certain bacteria and in certain cases increased sensitivity to plaque proteins can lead to gingival problems. The affected cats have a very sore mouth and find it hard to eat and sometimes can loose weight if not treated on time. Prevention- check your cat's gums and teeth regularly. On your visit to your vet ask them to check their mouth for any problems. Keep an eye for any discolored teeth or bad breath. Regular teeth clean can help resolve quite a few dental and other problems.
